Pink Tutu

About two weeks ago, I decided to make a beautiful retro style dress for our 18 inch doll. It would be pink to match her new necklace.
My initial plans changed a little. First, it was a lot shorter than I expected. Second, the straps were not at the angle I expected. So, my retro dressed turned into a tutu.

I was away from home and still wanted to do some sewing. So I took my pink retro/tutu and some beads on my trip. I trimmed the neckline and bottom edge of the skirt in pearls and beads. Added some ribbon to the waist and straps. And lastly added tulle underneath. Here is my retro dress masquerading as a tutu. You be the judge.

Head Scarf

I am so excited! I finally finished my head scarf! This head scarf has a story. I bought this beautiful cotton yarn for 40% off from a local yarn store that was closing and it was still $8.00 for a hank. Very beautiful, very good quality, very expensive and I was so anxious to get started. BUT... I had not paid attention to my knitting book and I proceeded to just start yanking yarn straight off of the Hank. Lesson: Do not pull yarn or start knitting straight from a hank (A hank is the weird figure 8 yarn). I did knit for a little while, but just as you guessed it, I eventually had the biggest mess in the world. The more I tried to unravel and pull, the worse it got. It was hopeless. So, like any normal person would do...I called my mom:) At first she told me to throw it away, than she told me to give it to her and she would fix it. I'm embarrassed to say, my mother unraveled all of my yarn and fixed everything. Thanks mom! Here is the finished product.

Doll Fashion Recap

The weather looked sunny for jewelry making. I couldn't resist. I thought a cute necklace for the "spoiled" doll would be perfect. So I went to a local bead shop and
here you have it....

It was a lot of fun to make. And I even had leftover beads to make a bracelet to match. Actually the bracelet and the necklace are about the same size, so we'll see if I will be able to tell the difference.

And now I will catch you up on my past couple of month of sewing.
Get ready for a bunch of pictures...

Welcome

Hi.  Welcome to my blog. Since you are visiting, you must either be a fellow crafter or impressed with handmade items. Either way, I'm happy you stopped in to visit my blog. I will be posting pictures of my handmade items. Sometimes sewing, sometimes crocheting, sometimes knitting or anything else I run across. It will be an excellent way to keep track of my creations and also to inspire you to make some of your own. I am currently running on a 18 inch doll wardrobe frenzy. They are just so cute! How can you not want to make them yourself. I found an excellent website called Liberty Jane. They design amazing patterns for 18 inch dolls like American Girl Doll.

I used the long sleeve t-shirt pattern, the strappy tank pattern and a variation on their faraway downs skirt. This particular item is for sale in my Etsy Store

Since, my attention span for creating and crafting is short. Stay tuned for anything my heart may fancy. Maybe I'll try my hand at jewelry making next. I hear its fun!
